When can I start?

New students can start on Monday of any week. Some centres start their sessions every five weeks. Visit the English Language and Cambridge English Course Calendar for up-to-date session times.

General English Program (CRICOS #049258C)

Course duration: 2 - 50 weeks (20 hours per week)

Improve your English language proficiency for travel and study in Australia or to communicate with English speakers around the world. This course develops your grammar, speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. You can start at any level from Beginner to Advanced and finish at any exit point that suits your individual needs.

Successful completion at Upper Intermediate level will enable direct entry to TAFE NSW courses with an IELTS 5.5 entry requirement.

English For Academic Purposes (CRICOS #0101064)

Course duration: 5 - 20 weeks (20 hours per week)

This course will improve your English language proficiency and academic strategies for successful participation in academic and Higher Education courses in Australia. The course has flexible exit points so you can leave when you have achieved the level of proficiency required for your next course of study.

The entry requirement for this course is IELTS 5.5 or equivalent. Students who have successfully attained Upper Intermediate level (CEFR B2) at a TAFE NSW English Language Centre are admitted into the English for Academic Purposes program.

English For Exam Preparation (CRICOS #074348D)

Course duration: 2 - 50 weeks (20 hours per week)

Do you need an internationally recognised exam qualification? We can help! These challenging exam courses are stimulating and demanding and when you successfully complete, can lead to an internationally-recognised exam qualification. This improves your study and employment opportunities.

By studying a Cambridge English Certificate course you’ll open up a world of opportunity, personally and professionally. TAFE NSW can help you achieve your English language goals.

  • Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE)*
  • Cambridge B2 First (FCE)*

  • Studying English with TAFE NSW offers you guaranteed entry into any of TAFE NSW’s courses offered to international students. This includes 170 vocational qualifications (Certificates to Advanced Diplomas)* and 10 Bachelor Degrees
  • TAFE NSW English for Academic Purposes is accepted by several Australian higher education providers as meeting the English entry requirements for degrees on offer.

*except for Diploma of Nursing, which requires an IELTS or OET test
