Creating a sustainable future

    Our sustainability focus areas

Action for sustainability needs a broad approach and strong leadership. As one of Australia’s largest vocational education training providers, at TAFE  NSW we can set an example and lead the way.

We have four priorities in our sustainability strategy:

    • tackling climate change
    • embracing a circular economy
    • creating healthy environments, and
    • educating and engaging our staff, learners and the community.

Read our Sustainability Statement below to learn more.

    Our sustainability goals

We aim to create a sustainable and circular economy across TAFE NSW. To achieve our aim, we plan to:

    • reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050

    • cut greenhouse emissions in half by 2030

    • increase our recycling rate to 75% by 2030.

Most of our emissions come from using electricity, so we're switching to renewables. This enables us to be more efficient with resources. To achieve our business recycling goal, we will continue to increase waste management activity across all TAFE NSW campuses.

    We're already making changes like:

    • using more solar power

    • improving ventilation systems

    • installing energy-efficient lighting

    • assessing climate risks, and

    • improving how we plan and respond to climate events.

TAFE NSW is committed to making our campuses sustainable and great places to work and study.

    How TAFE NSW helped Leah

TAFE NSW helped make Leah Foster’s businesses more eco-friendly. An entrepreneur from the Snowy Mountains, Leah studied a Diploma of Sustainable Practice during the COVID-19 crisis.

Leah found it helpful for her two businesses - a creative agency called Leeway Studio, and her eco-certified tour company, K7 Adventures.

She says, ‘I’ve long had a sense of underlying dread when it comes to how we’re using resources and taking from the environment. The course was such a great way to look at the inefficiencies in my business and improve it.’
