Overview About this course

Gain the essential skillset so the children in your care have the best chance at staying safe. A common job requirement in the industry, this course will teach you a range of emergency response techniques including CPR, and treatments of asthma, anaphylaxis, cuts, burns, bone fractures, bites and stings.

Outcomes What you'll gain

Learning outcomes

Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

  • Identify signs and symptoms of acute illness in children and infants

  • Activate emergency action plans for known medical conditions including asthma and anaphylaxis

  • Manage 25 different illnesses and injuries from dehydration, vomiting and diarrhoea to poisoning, fracture, choking and burns

  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

  • Respond to emergency situations

  • Use First Aid equipment

  • Maintain privacy, consent and confidentiality protocols

  • Follow codes of practice and workplace procedures

Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • Physical ability to kneel on the floor to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles) on an adult manikin placed on the floor
