The nationally accredited Certificate III in Auslan develops your understanding of the language, values and culture of the Australian Deaf community. Communicate with deaf family, friends and community members and work towards becoming an interpreter with this immersive course.

Course details
This course is designed for those who have a need to communicate with deaf family, friends, or community members.

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.
In this course, the types of assessments you will complete include:
- Written assessments such as understanding recorded texts, understanding live texts, and research projects
- Practical assessments such as producing and delivering Auslan text, and participating in Auslan exchanges
Depending on your location, you may need to attend class on specific days to complete some of the Auslan assessments.
The Certificate II in Auslan is a beginners course designed to help you learn to communicate the basics in Auslan. Work on gaining confidence in the language and your delivery. It will set you up for success in the next qualification, the Certificate III in Auslan.
The Certificate III in Auslan takes everything you have learnt in the Certificate II and develops your comprehension and participation skills further. It will teach you tools you can use for different conversations and provides study pathways that will help you reach your career goals.
The Certificate IV in Auslan is practiced with a degree of fluency and spontaneity, across a large range of subjects. It involves abstract and concrete notions, and can be completed before enrolling in the Diploma of Auslan.
This course does not offer excursions, however you will gain hands-on experience in the classroom.
You will gain hands-on skills to use at home and in your community, such as:
- Signing in detail in familiar and routine matters such as introductions, and basic personal information
- Communicating in casual conversations such as directions, cooking, verbs and social events
- Communicating in formal conversations
- Using Auslan to converse in matters regarding employment and education
You will use role play activities within the classroom to practice your Auslan in everyday situations, to gain context and to develop your skills.
You will work on real world projects, such as:
- Using Auslan to communicate about routine and non-routine matters such as introductions, asking for directions
