    There are a range of Aboriginal specific resources at TAFE NSW to encourage your success. We take pride in creating a supportive and inclusive environment for our Aboriginal students.

    Aboriginal Student Support Officers

    We have Aboriginal Student Support Officers to assist all modes of study and study experiences.

    No matter whether you study:

    • online

    • on campus

    • as an apprentice

    • as a trainee.

    Our Aboriginal Student Support Officers will also help with:

    • advice regarding your studies

    • applications for fee exemptions and scholarships

    • accessing the right mentoring support

    • discussing Cultural commitments affecting your study

    • finding other relevant support services.

    Aboriginal study centres

    Some campuses across TAFE NSW have Aboriginal Study Centres. Here you can connect and chat with Aboriginal staff and students.

    Our Aboriginal Study Centres give you the opportunity to:

    • engage in yarning circles

    • feel secure in a Culturally safe space

    • ask study related questions

    • talk directly with Aboriginal staff and Aboriginal Student Support Officers

    • slow down and have a break

    • connect with your mob

    • learn to embrace silence

    • listen and respect each other’s stories.

    Counselling

    TAFE NSW offers free and confidential counselling to your mob. Our counsellors will listen and work with you to develop strategies that support your wellbeing.

    You can get help with:

    • mental health (anxiety, stress, depression)

    • alcohol, drug issues

    • conflict, violence and abuse

    • how to access financial and accommodation support

    • get a referral to Aboriginal education programs

    • finding disability and multicultural support. 

    Counselling can be done:

    • one-on-one, on campus

    • over the phone

    • online.

    When making your appointment, speak to the administration team and choose the option that works best for you.

    Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)

    Our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan aims to build an environment of respect and diversity. It integrates fairness and Cultural safety.
