    Scholarships are aimed at ensuring fair access to education at TAFE NSW, and can be used to help with course-related expenses and living costs. This semester, there are eight Equity Scholarships available, each valued at $1,000.

    Equity scholarships are awarded to students who identify themselves as one or more of the following:

    • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
    • living with disability, long-term medical condition, or chronic illness
    • long-term unemployed (longer than six months)
    • Centrelink benefit recipient
    • youth at risk
    • experiencing or have experienced domestic and family violence.

    The scholarships are awarded to students with a genuine interest and dedication to their studies, completing their courses, and securing employment.

    Who can apply?

    To apply for an Equity Scholarship, you must:

    • be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder, or New Zealand citizen, and be living in NSW. Please read the Terms and Conditions on the application form for a list of eligible humanitarian visas
    • be studying or planning to study an Australian Vocational Education and Training (VET) accredited course at TAFE NSW
    • explain how you will use the scholarship funds to support your study and career goals
    • describe the circumstances that led you to apply for a TAFE NSW Equity Scholarship
    • complete your application form with a dated and signed referee statement. Examples of suitable referees include your teacher, head teacher, teacher consultant, case worker, Aboriginal support officer, support officer, registered counsellor or TAFE NSW counsellor
    • do one of the following:
      • Demonstrate that you are on Centrelink benefits, or
      • indicate the circumstances that have affected your education or access to education.

    Please remember that TAFE NSW offers multiple support services to students, including free counselling services. We understand that sharing your personal or financial circumstances may be emotionally challenging, so please don’t hesitate to access these services if you need support.

    You can arrange an appointment with a counsellor by phoning 131 601 and selecting option five, then option 2. You can also use this option to access disability services or referral to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student support services.
