Essential Eight Assessment Course
The Essential Eight Assessment Course uses a blend of specialist knowledge, experience and hands-on technical training to enable Cyber Security and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) professionals to understand the Australian Cyber Security Centres (ACSC’s) Essential Eight Assessment Guidance Package as well as the Essential Eight Maturity Model. These skills and knowledge will enable participants to effectively assess and improve their organisation’s cyber security posture.

801-000007The Essential Eight Assessment Course has been designed by the Australian Signals Directorate’s (ASD) Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) and is delivered in partnership by TAFEcyber.
The Essential Eight Assessment Course will help Cyber Security and ICT professionals:
- Understand the intent and application of ACSC’s Essential Eight mitigation strategies.
- Learn how to use ACSC-designed tools.
- Accurately test the implementation of the Essential Eight security controls.
- Develop an accurate an actionable assessment report including a defined action plan to address any weaknesses.

The course runs over four days. Three days of classes from 9am-4.00pm, and an exam from 9am-12pm on the fourth day.
At this stage only full time 3.5 day courses are available, however this may change in the future dependent upon interest.

No, the course cost is fixed and not subject to any government subsidies.
The training and experience requirements needed to succeed in this course are:
- a minimum of a Certificate IV qualification in a technical ICT discipline and a minimum of two years’ experience in a technical ICT role, OR;
- Four years’ experience in a technical ICT role.
During the enrolment process you will be required to provide copies of documentation verifying citizenship, education, and work experience.
If your company already has a TAFE NSW Business Development Manager, they will help to manage your enrolment into this program. This includes helping to setup and deliver customised programs for companies who have 10+ staff they wish to put through the training.
For all other prospective students, we have an Essential Eight Course Coordinator who will help to get you enrolled into courses as they become available.
