Fee-free* TAFE is a joint initiative of the Australian Commonwealth and New South Wales Governments, providing tuition-free training places for people wanting to train, retrain or upskill.

* Eligibility Criteria
Fee-free* TAFE is a joint initiative of the Australian Commonweath and New South Wales Governments, providing tuition-free training places to students wanting to train, retrain or upskill. To be eligible, students must be a new enrolment from 13 November 2023 and commence studies between 1 January 2024 and 30 June 2024.
To be eligible, people must at the time of enrolment:
- Live or work in New South Wales.
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent Australian resident, or a humanitarian visa holder.
- Be aged 15 years or over, and not enrolled at any school.
Students are limited to enrolling in one Fee-free course per semester.
People from the following groups are strongly encouraged to apply:
- First Nations people
- LGBTIQ+ community
- Veterans
- Job seekers
- Young people
- Unpaid carers
- Women interested in non-traditional fields
- People living with a disability
- People who are eligible for certain visa sub classes
- People from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
Depending on the type of training and resources that are required to deliver a course effectively, class sizes may be limited. Fee-free places are subject to availability at each intake and may be subject to capacity constraints. The number of Fee-free TAFE places that are funded is limited by the terms of the skills agreement signed by the Australian and New South Wales Governments.

Search for the course you’re interested in and select the Start Application or Start Enrolment button. You’ll be guided through our enrolment questions and your eligibility for the Fee-free* TAFE program is confirmed if your fee displays as $0.
If you are not eligible for Fee-free* TAFE, a course fee amount will display which you’ll be required to pay to confirm your enrolment.
Search for the course you’re interested in and choose the location you wish to enrol at. Select the Calculate my fee button and answer the questions that are displayed. If you are eligible and the course is part of the Fee-free* TAFE Program, the fee calculator will show a $0 fee.
If you are under 17 years of age, we’ll require the signature of your parent/guardian before you enrol. Call us on 131 601 for an enrolment form, and we’ll take you through the next steps. If you are under 17, you won’t be able to enrol online.

Fee-free* TAFE will cover tuition fees for one course only unless you continue to study another course within the same pathway as part of the ‘Pathways’ initiative. To be eligible, students must be a new enrolment from 13 November 2023 and commence studies between 1 January 2024 and 30 June 2024.
