Accidental Counsellor training is a practical mental health training workshop that teaches basic counselling skills and principles to people who are not trained counsellors but often find themselves in a 'counselling role by accident' to support a friend, child, colleague, client or in times of meltdowns. This workshop aims to provide non-counsellors with a range of skills to work effectively with people who may be distressed, agitated or in crisis. It gives participants a practical framework for managing these issues whilst achieving a sense of structure and confidence in their work. Learn skills on how to communicate, reflective listening and qualities of effective counsellors, limit setting and boundaries, dealing with crisis, debriefing and self care. Be confident in responding to the expressed emotions and needs of clients and move them to a referral point or practical solution.
Discover the skills you need for the job you want at the TAFE NSW Information Sessions, 21-25 June 2021.

This is a part-time day connected blended-delivery course. You will need to attend approximately 5 hours of class delivered via Connected Classroom, over 1 day.
This course is offered by Connected Classroom. This is just like a regular classroom, but teachers and students use the latest video conferencing technologies.
Your teacher can be in one TAFE location, and you can join the class from another TAFE location using video conferencing equipment or a mobile device. You can also join in from a venue in a participating regional community. You will be able to see and talk to your teacher and other students as though they were in the room with you. You will also have access to support to meet your learning needs.
Teachers and students can present course materials, engage and interact with one another, and work in small groups together, all as though they were in the room with you. Sessions are hosted on Microsoft Teams. This provides all the benefits of classroom workshops working with other students, asking questions with immediate answers from teachers and peers, and encouraging deeper discussions and learning with the flexibility of online learning, as well as enabling us to provide training to a much wider range of communities and people.
