Course Details

This course is for existing tradespeople requiring the knowledge and skills to seek certification to welding standard AS1796 Pressure Welding. You will acquire the practical skills and techniques associated with the welding process to join ferrous plate and pipe in all weld positions, to meet the standards defined by AS1796.

When you study with TAFE NSW, we want you to succeed. Entry requirements allow us to make sure that you have the right pre-existing knowledge and skills to achieve your chosen qualification. You will need to provide evidence that you meet the requirements listed in this section.

Certificate III Engineering Fabrication or 300 hours documented evidence of performing code welding.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

  • Students must have prior welding expierence and be working in the industry.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a part-time evening, face to face delivery course. You will need to attend approximately 3 hours of class, 1 evening a week, for 18 weeks.

You may also be required to complete additional study each week outside of class hours, including research.

If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, there may be a modification or delay in the planned timeframe due to COVID-19 impacts. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.

This course is currently scheduled on Thursdays from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

This training is not subsidised by Government funding. There are no fee exemptions, concessions or subsidies available for this course.

Payment of course fee must be made PRIOR to commencement of learning activity.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES
You will need to provide the following resources which is retained on completion of study:

  • one-piece cotton drill overalls or cotton drill trousers and a long sleeve shirt
  • steel capped boots

You are also required to bring all welding PPE including:

  • welding mask
  • welding gloves
  • safety glasses
