    Assessments

    Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

    • Knowledge tasks: online quizzes, short answer questions, case studies, written tasks and research projects, matching and true or false activities

    • Practical tasks before starting work placement: interviews, role-plays, creative projects, presentations and practical demonstrations

    • Workplace assessment tasks: written tasks, reflective journals, verbal or written questioning, planning and implementing activities, practical demonstrations

    • Submission of a training logbook

    • Workplace portfolio

    Work placement

    Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

    • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:

      • A minimum of 160 hours of work placement in a regulated Education and Care Service in Australia is required for this qualification. The work placement will be undertaken in your place of employment. For Trainees that need a work placement for under two years old this will be arranged in a regulated early childhood service by TAFE NSW in consultation with the Employer and Trainee.

      The Public Health (COVID -19 Vaccination of Education and Care Workers) Order 2021 states that education and care workers are required to have received 2 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine or be issued with a medical contraindication certificate by 8 November 2021 to be able to undertake relevant work. This applies to students on work placement in an early education and care facility. If you are not vaccinated we cannot assure you that this component of your course can be organised or fulfilled, which will impact your ability to successfully course complete. Details can be found https://education.nsw.gov.au/early-childhood-education/coronavirus/advice-for-services-and-providers TAFENSW recognises students' reasons for not being vaccinated. This can be discussed privately with TAFE NSW career counsellors prior to enrolment. A valid Working with Children Check will be required by the Education and Care Service.

    Materials needed

    To complete this course, the following materials are required:

    • You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

      • First Aid Booklet $25 to be purchased prior to the start of unit HLTAID012 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting.

    • To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

      • an apprentice (you will work in industry and study at the same time)
      • employed full time
      • signed up with an Apprentice Network Provider and have a Training Plan Proposal
      • seeking to gain skills and knowledge to become a qualified carer/educator after successful completion

    Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 17 units of competency, including 15 core and 2 speciality units.

    Course deliveryStudying at your Workplace

    You will get your training on the job, supervised by a workplace training officer or your employer. This training is undertaken at your place of employment. Work-based learning may also include completing work-based projects while under supervision. You may need to attend an on campus assessment and/or a teacher might need to observe and assess you in a real or simulated environment.
