    Work placement

    Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

    • You will undertake a mandatory 120 hours of work placement with a suitable industry employer. Depending on your mode of study, TAFE NSW will arrange your work placement for you or support you to find one.

    • To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

      • Must have completed Cert III Individual Support (Ageing, Home and Community)
    • -National Criminal Record Check

    • To successfully complete this course:

    • Each student will be required to complete a minimum of 120 hours of practical experience in an accredited residential aged care facility.

    • You will be required to attain a level of literacy level 3. You must complete each of the units and the workplace component to a satisfactory level.

      • A Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) level at ACSF Level 3 when commencing the course and basic computer skills. This will be assessed as part of your enrolment process.

    Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in Ageing Support qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 18 Units of competency, including 15 core and 3 speciality units.

    Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

    Course deliveryCombination study

    Learn through a combination of classroom based, on campus classroom, virtual classroom, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled face-to-face or virtual classroom activities, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

    Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
