Course Details

The Bachelor of Community Services is a three year fully online degree that will equip you with the practical skills and theory you need to pursue a career in community services, where you can make your mark supporting the wellbeing of individuals, families and communities, as well as being an agent of social change.

This degree is a dynamic hands-on course which will prepare you for practice-based roles in both government and non- government agencies. Students can choose electives to focus on areas of specialisation including working with families at risk, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander studies, settlement work and disability services.

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants are required to hold, at minimum, one of the following to be considered eligible for admission:

  • a NSW HSC (Higher School Certificate) or equivalent OR
  • a recognised Tertiary Preparation Certificate OR
  • a qualification from a Registered Training Organisation at Certificate IV level or above OR
  • the completion of at least one year full-time or equivalent in a degree course at a higher education institution.

SPECIAL ADMISSIONS
If you do not meet the minimum eligibility requirements for this course, you may be able to apply for entry into this course based on mature age or disadvantage. Contact the course coordinator for details of evidence that you should attach to your application.

INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS
This course is not registered with CRICOS and is therefore not available for enrolment by students holding an international student visa. Offshore students are eligible to apply for entry into this course and should contact the course coordinator. Further information please check the TAFE NSW International Australia website for details on fees and enrolment processes for international students.

To be eligible for admission you must submit evidence of at least ONE of the following entry requirements, certified by a Justice of the Peace:

  • NSW HSC (Higher School Certificate) or equivalent
  • Recognised Tertiary Preparation Certificate
  • Certificate IV level or higher vocational qualification
  • Completion of at least one year full-time study or equivalent in a degree course at a higher education institution

Special Admission:

  • If you do not meet the minimum eligibility requirements for this course, you may be able to apply for entry based on mature age or disadvantage. You will be required to complete an online literacy and numeracy assessment. Please email your consent for your details to be forwarded to the assessment team.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • To be eligible for the Bachelor of Community Services, students need to have completed 240 credit points by completing 18 Core Subjects and 4 Elective Subjects.

Work Placement is a requirement of this course. You will need to complete:

  • two Fields of Practice subjects that integrate academic learning with application in the workplace also referred to as Work Integrated Learning (WIL). CSSAP102A Fields of Practice I requires the completion of 200 hours of work placement in first year and CSSAP305A Fields of Practice II requires the completion of 200 hours in third year, totalling 400 hours.

There are no information sessions currently scheduled for this course.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is an online course. Full-time study load: you will need to complete approximately 16 hours of online study, each week, across two 12 week semesters each year, for a 3 year enrolment.

You can also expect to complete approximately 24 hours of additional study each week outside of online class hours, including private study, research and assessment preparation. Part-time study load is available.

  • Want the flexibility of an online course and have the capacity to apply higher education study skills that include: academic integrity, time management, organisation, self-directed learning, being an active member of an online learning community and using a range of online technologies.
  • Students who have completed either CHC52015 Diploma of Community Services or CHC50612/CHC50608 Diploma of Community Services Work may be eligible for credit equivalent to a year of full-time study.

Please note: The Bachelor of Community Services is accredited by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA). Graduates are not eligible to register with the Australian Association of Social Workers on the basis of this qualification alone. The Bachelor of Community Services is not an Australian Community Workers Association accredited course.
