The nationally recognised Certificate III in Health Administration provides you with the tools to kick-start your career in the Health industry. Whether you are wanting to work as a health assistant, support worker or therapy aide, this course will give you the theoretical and practical knowledge to do so.

Depending on your place of work and before you commence any clinical placements in NSW Health facilities, you may be required to provide evidence of the following:

  • A National Police Check requirement governed by NSW Health
  • You will need to sign the NSW Health Code of Conduct, and any other forms, required by NSW Health to work within the healthcare industry
  • Vaccinations and health screenings that are compliant with NSW Health policy. You will need to provide your Health Care Worker/ Students Vaccination Record Card
  • Valid Working with Children Check (WWWC) depending on your place of work

Your workplace will let you know when you need to provide evidence of any requirements.


To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • An interest in the health industry
  • The ability to follow routines and procedures well
  • The autonomy to take responsibility for your own work under general supervision
  • Good communication, customer service and technical skills and can use discretion and judgement to adapt and transfer your skills to different situations
  • Sufficient literacy and numeracy skills

    Before you commence any clinical placements in NSW Health facilities, you will be required to
    Meet NSW Healths - Criminal Record Check requirements;
    Sign the NSW Health Code of Conduct form and any other forms required by NSW Health;
    Undertake Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Infectious Diseases and provide your Health Care Worker/Student Vaccination Record Card.

  1. AGED CARE WORK - Before you undertake any clinical placements in Aged Care Facilities you will be required to undertake a Federal Criminal Record Check. Visit:

    Anyone in child-related work (including student placements and volunteers) MUST have a current Working with Children Check (students/volunteers free) in line with the Office of Childrens Guardian phase-in schedule and processes. Visit:

    Generally work placements only occur after a reasonable amount of student/teacher contact and when the teacher is satisfied you are ready to benefit from workplace learning and perform workplace duties. Your teacher can provide further information.

Work Placement is a requirement of this course. You will need to complete:

  • a range of practical assessment tasks in the real and/ or simulated health care environment to achieve the competency in the course.
  • either at a 1-2 days face to face workshop, or you may organise your own workplacement to complete the tasks in a real health care facility.

This is a self-paced, online course. You will need to complete approximately 8 hours of online study, each week, for your enrolment duration of 18 months.

You can increase the hours of online study per week to complete the course sooner.

As well as the online component, there is a requirement to do (equivalent of) 5 hours of face to face or other study. A 1-2 days face to face workshop or work placement is necessary to complete a range of practical assessment tasks.

You may also be required to complete approximately 9 hours of additional study each week outside of online study hours, including research and private study.

  • may be new entrants or existing workers from either health or non health industries
  • would like to work as health administration assitants or administrators within health or related industries
  • are from a wide variety of age groups and ethnicities
  • have good level of language and literacy
  • will be able to work independently with little supervision

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
