Jamie-Lee Scotts, student at TAFE NSW Singleton
Singleton local Jamie-Lee Scotts is training for a career in what is set to be the fastest-growing industry in Australia - the care and support economy - with more than 580,000 new jobs predicted by 2034.
In July this year, after years of raising her children and casual retail work, 40-year-old Jamie-Lee enrolled in the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) at TAFE NSW Singleton Connected Learning Centre (CLC).
Jamie-Lee had been searching for something more meaningful - a role where she could make a genuine difference in people’s lives.

With flexible, close to home training, she is building the skills for aged care and disability support and preparing for a rewarding career in a high-demand industry.
“I’d been looking at the TAFE NSW course for about a year before finally enrolling just before the cut-off date,” Jamie-Lee said. “I quit my job to throw myself fully into training, and I’m so glad I did. I absolutely love it and can’t wait to finish.”
As part of completing her qualifications, Jamie-Lee will undertake her first industry placement in November, starting with a week in disability support, followed by two weeks in aged care. She said the course had already sparked her passion for working with older Australians.
“I’ve always had a real soft spot for elderly people. If you’re compassionate and looking for a fulfilling role, it’s incredibly rewarding. I want to provide excellent, dignified care and really connect with the people I support,” she said.
Jamie-Lee’s course is delivered at TAFE NSW Singleton CLC, a modern learning hub that provides regional students with access to flexible training, the latest technology and virtual support, without the need to travel to travel longer distances.
“The teachers and staff have been amazing. Even on days without classes, the other students and I go into the campus to study together. The training is practical and straightforward and I feel ready to step into the industry,” she said.
