Thirteen Bathurst locals are carving out fresh futures thanks to a TAFE NSW course that gave them essential skills to pursue further education or employment.
The Certificate II in Career Preparation at TAFE NSW Bathurst is helping locals without a Year 10 certificate to improve their literacy, numeracy, communication and technology skills. As well as understand workplace practices, apply for jobs, and prepare for job interviews.
While some of these students find high school challenging for various reasons, the course completion rate at TAFE NSW Bathurst is impressive – 98 per cent in 2025, the same as the previous year.
TAFE NSW Bathurst Certificate II in Career Preparation graduate, Te’Amo Luck, said completing the TAFE NSW Certificate II in Career Preparation was one of the best decisions she’s made.
“TAFE NSW gave me a fresh start and a place where I felt like I belonged. The hands-on learning style really suited me. I have a clear career direction and have secured an electrical apprenticeship with Essential Energy,” Te’Amo said.
Leshaye Murdoch, 15, said, “The course helped me build social and professional skills in a smaller, supportive group.”
“I’ve learned practical skills like handling money - skills that will help me in any job I go into. I’m planning to study the Certificate III in Career Advancement next and want to pursue a career in disability services.”
TAFE NSW Career Pathways and Employability Skills Teacher, Cameron Johnson, added, “The flexibility of the TAFE NSW environment and our interactive, practical learning methods are big contributors to the course’s popularity and our high completion rate.”
“It gives students a fresh opportunity to grow their literacy, numeracy, and communication skills, and the tools to enter the workforce or continue their education,” Mr Johnson said.
“All our students are young people who have left school early, and every day I see each take control of their own learning. I am lucky to witness firsthand the transformational impact this course is having on the lives of young people in our community.”
