Women from the Highlands Community Centre have been treated to a day of confidence-boosting pampering and professional headshots, thanks to a unique collaboration between TAFE NSW Moss Vale’s hair, beauty, and design students.
Nine local women took part in the session, receiving personalised hair styling and make-up application with tailored advice so they can recreate the look at home. This was followed by an indoor and outdoor photoshoot designed to provide professional images they can use for resumes and LinkedIn profiles.
The event grew from a simulated training environment created by the TAFE NSW teaching team, where students from different disciplines collaborate to meet real-world client needs. After meeting with the Highlands Community Centre, TAFE NSW invited the women to be part of the photoshoot, creating an authentic and meaningful learning experience for students.
Renee Oostendorp, Beauty Therapy Teacher at TAFE NSW Moss Vale said: “We are so happy that our students have been able to experience working in a team of professionals as well as having the opportunity to support and uplift the community.”
“This was a wonderful opportunity for students to gain valuable hands-on skills, engage with real clients, and provide local women with tools to help them move forward personally and professionally, while boosting their confidence.”
While this is the first time the make-up and beauty teams have worked with Highlands Community Centre, the success of the event has opened the door to future collaborations.
“We’re excited to see how we can continue to support initiatives like this and provide our students with valuable hands-on experiences,” Ms Oostendorp added. The event is part of TAFE NSW’s ongoing commitment to practical, purpose-driven learning that benefits both students and the wider community.
