    Assessments

    Assessments let you show what you've learned and check what you may need to work on.

    • Knowledge assessments: short answer, research tasks.

    • Practical skills assessments: demonstrations under observation, role plays using a fictional organisation or your own workplace as a basis.

    • Simulated workplace projects: scenario-based problem solving.

    Work placement

    Work placement gives you real experience and develops your skills.

    • There is no work placement for this qualification.

    Materials needed

    To complete this course, the following materials are required:

    • You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

      • general stationery items (i.e. pens, paper, folder etc), including an A4 ring binder/dividers and plastic sleeves for handouts
      • a USB for saving your assessments
      • headphones and a USB storage device or access to a cloud storage account will also be required

    Additional entry requirements

    To make sure this delivery option is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

    • You will need to complete your course work as per your individual learning plan time frame and participate regularly and consistently. Although there are no entry requirements, it is recommended that students have experience in industry to at least Certificate III level or equivalent including health and safety experience as a team member or supervisor, conducting safety observations, identifying hazards, conducting risk assessments, being a safety committee member or attending toolbox group or team safety talks. Computer skills in using Microsoft word and navigating the internet will also be useful.

    Units taught in this course

    Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 10 units of competency, including 5 core and 5 speciality units.

    Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

    Course delivery

    Virtual classroom (off campus)

    Learn virtually, from anywhere with a strong internet connection. Like learning on campus, you will receive a timetable of when to attend virtually. You'll use video or web conferencing technology to connect to your virtual classroom with your teacher and other students. When attending off campus, you can choose where you want to study. This could include your home, a local library, or any TAFE NSW campus. You can contact TAFE NSW campuses to book a space. Depending on your course you may also complete some of your training online.
