    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • Recognise and respond to domestic and family violence and crisis situations

    • Reflect on and improve your own professional practice

    • Work within a trauma-informed framework

    • Manage legal and ethical compliance

    • Facilitate and review case management, including workplace debriefing and support processes

    • Analyse impacts of sociological factors on people in community work and services to effect change

    During your study you’ll need to provide your teacher with the following evidence:

    • A Working with Children Check (WWCC)

    • A National Police Check

    • Any additional evidence your work placement provider requires, such as a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and vaccination and health screenings

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • Experience working in the industry, or previous study, e.g. Certificate IV Community services or related courses

    • A desire to increase your leadership skills in the community service sector

    • The ability to work independently and as part of a team, unsupervised within your scope of practice

    • Proficient computer skills (digital literacy) to be able to handle electronic records and documentation

    • The ability to use your emotional intelligence, patience and empathy

    • An interest in working with people from diverse backgrounds

    Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Diploma of Community Services (Case Management and Responding to Family Violence) qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 20 , including 12 core and 8 speciality units.
