Assessments
Assessments let you show what you've learned and check what you may need to work on.
Knowledge tasks: online quizzes, multiple-choice questions, matching and true or false tasks.
Project assessments: research tasks, short answer questions, scenarios and personal reflections.
Workplace portfolio: practical skills demonstrations and reflective practice journals, observing and planning for children’s learning, workplace health and safety tasks.
Training logbook: 160 workplace hours log, workplace supervisor reports.
Work placement
Work placement gives you real experience and develops your skills.
To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:
- A minimum of 160 hours of work placement in a regulated Education and Care Service in Australia.
- The work placement will be arranged by the TAFE NSW in partnership with the service and implemented within the student's program to enable consolidation, reflection, improvement and assessment to occur.
- A student may already have access to a regulated Education and Care service through paid or voluntary employment. This can be assessed by TAFE NSW for suitability for the student to complete their placement.
- A valid Working with Children Check will be required by the Education and Care Service. The Service and/or some locations may also have additional requirements such as vaccination and Police Checks. Students will be notified of specific requirements prior to placement. Please note: There are currently COVID 19 vaccination requirements for volunteers and employees in the Education and Care Sector. Units taught in this course
Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 17 units of competency, including 15 core and 2 speciality units.

Course delivery
Combination study
Learn through a combination of on-campus classroom, virtual classroom, online, and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled face-to-face or virtual classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.
Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
