Practical skills assessments: demonstrations under observation. Depending on your location, you may be required to provide clients for your practical classes and assessments.

Simulated workplace projects: scenario-based problem solving

There is no work placement for this qualification.

You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

• Equipment/tools of trade and personal protective equipment (PPE) at an approximate cost of - $100.

• Non compulsory items: TAFE NSW Hair & Beauty T-shirts are recommended and can be purchased at an approximate cost $20.

WH&S requirements for classes: You must wear closed in protective footwear and clothing that is clean and professional for the industry.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to:

• attend a compulsory information session where you will be required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy screen to determine whether you meet the entry requirements or need additional LLN support or may need to enrol into an alternative pathway. Local level entry requirements are identified at an ACFS level 2 for this qualification.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

• to provide services on paying clients and may also need to provide models for some of your practical classes and assessments.

• to comply with Work Health & Safety requirements for classes, including wearing closed in protective footwear and clothing that is clean and professional for the industry.

Work placement is not compulsory, however it is highly recommended.

Learners enrolled in this course are encouraged to complete work placement with a host employer as part of their training program. Work placement is designed to enrich the learning, compliment the formal training and enable an easier transition into the industry once the course is completed. Clinic sessions can be completed as work placement with a host employer that has been approved by the teaching section. Learners not participating in work placement with a host employer, will be required to participate in scheduled clinic sessions at TAFE, providing services on paying clients.
