Help to make a difference in the lives of others and acquire the skills and knowledge to support nurses in the care of patients with different needs. Provide personal care to a diverse range of people and learn how to respond to emergency health situations.

Learning outcomes

Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

  • Take and record essential health markers such as temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure and blood glucose
    Record intake and output on fluid balance chart and/or food chart
    Measure and recording weight
    Understand human body functions and medical terminology

Completion requirements

During your study you’ll need to provide your teacher with the following evidence:

  • A National Police Check
    A signed copy of NSW Health code of conduct form and any other forms as required
    Successful competition of an occupational assessment, screening and vaccination against infectious diseases
    Your health care worker/student vaccination record card

Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • Adequate fitness levels and mobility to deliver First Aid and perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR while kneeling on the floor
    Your sights set on a future career in nursing
    A passion for helping others
    The ability to work under pressure
