Overview

This course will provide participants with the ability to use English to satisfy their own routine everyday transactional, commercial and recreational needs. They will be able to participate in routine spoken exchanges and listen, respond, read and write routine English texts. Graduates will have developed basic English language skills in Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing, learning and digital literacy and be able to apply their knowledge of the English language to deal with a limited range of predictable problems which may arise in their everyday lives.

This course is intended to provide participants with the following general education outcomes:

  • English language proficiency of the Canadian Language Benchmarks, CLB 5
  • English language proficiency to undertake qualifications requiring proficiency of CLB 5, ISLPR 2, IELTS 4.5 or CEFR B1 on entry, which provide a pathway to access employment, training and community participation.
