The higher education Undergraduate Certificate in Sustainable Practice is the first half of the Diploma of Sustainable Practice. This course enhances your current knowledge and skills, and prepares you for a career as an excellent sustainability professional. Graduate with the skills to understand and address the sustainability challenges facing any organisation. This course will help you build the confidence to design and develop strategies and programs and engage with both internal and external stakeholders to bring about meaningful change in any organisation. In doing so you'll be part of the global movement for a better future.

Learning outcomes

Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

  • Interpret the correlation between social, environmental and economic systems

  • Examine current trends in various sustainability issues

  • Examine global, national, local and organisational sustainability policy

  • Determine non-policy and non-regulation drivers for sustainable practice

  • Understand the diverse roles of stakeholders based on their interests and influence

  • Determine the critical components of a sustainability strategy and implement engagement strategies for internal and external stakeholders

  • Determine indicators and metrics relevant to the sustainability context

  • Scrutinise and refine a sustainability strategy based on your stakeholder engagement

Develop specialist skills to gain an advantage in the job market

  • Graduate with an Undergraduate Certificate in Sustainable Practice (AQF 5)

  • The confidence and knowledge to assist you to achieve professional ISSP certification

  • Knowledge and skills that are transferrable to many industries and organisations

  • Recognition of prior learning for the Diploma of Sustainable Practice. The 4 subjects studied in the Undergraduate Certificate will be recognised and credited towards the Diploma qualification, with a fee-deduction

  • This course has been accredited by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA)

Entry requirements

This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol

You must demonstrate that you have achieved one of the following:

  • A NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) or its equivalent or

  • A Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation or its equivalent or

  • A completed certificate IV or higher vocational qualification

Note:

  • Your certificates, transcripts and other entry requirement evidence must be certified through a Justice of the Peace or other authorising officer

Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • A passion for sustainability and implementing sustainable practices

  • The ability to think critically and systemically and a desire to develop these skills further

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with others

  • The ability to motivate and empower others, and a desire to develop these skills further

  • A PC or laptop with good internet access to attend live online sessions, access your study materials and complete and submit your assessments. You can access this equipment on a TAFE NSW campus however, we highly recommend you have your own equipment available. Online learning environments are accessible on mobile, but you will need a PC or laptop at times.

You do not require an ATAR score for entry into this course.
