Woolworths
When Woolworths saw an opportunity to improve the levels of service in their meat department even further, TAFE Enterprise helped their employees rise to the challenge

Woolworths and TAFE Enterprise - A fresh approach for the Fresh Food People
Woolworths knew that the training program they needed had to be both customised as well as flexible – and it had to produce meat department staff who were a cut above.
The challenge
With a shortage of trade qualified candidates and an increase in customer demand for advice and suggestions in everything from condiments to full meals, Woolworths looked at how they could upskill their current teams to deliver what they needed.
TAFE Enterprise delivered
Because we understood that Woolworths wanted their teams to maintain great customer service while also displaying the passion that is commonly found in artisanal butcher shops, we:
- developed a shorter version of the Certificate III Meat Processing (Food Services) training that addressed three key competencies required from Woolworths: product knowledge, preparation and promotion and developing the best customer relationships;
- designed a customised training program for team members to complete in six months while maintaining full-time employment and;
- designed the training so it could be supported through a co-branded online training platform, and also delivered face-to-face by ‘trade champions’ - people who could mentor, train and coach staff.
The result
As a result of the training, Woolworths found a significant increase in customer satisfaction in their meat departments. Participants completed the customised training earning a Certificate II in Meat Processing (Food Services). Woolworths have found that employees who completed the training have excelled in their respective stores, and now display a knowledgeable and inspired attitude in store.
