Course Details
Graduates of this course will have English language skills to participate in everyday life and community, work preparation and further learning. Graduates will be able to use English to satisfy their own basic everyday transactional and limited social needs. They will be able to participate in basic spoken exchanges, listen and respond to basic English texts, and read and write basic English texts.
This course is intended to provide participants with the following general education outcomes:
- English language proficiency of the Canadian Language Benchmarks, CLB 4
- English language proficiency to undertake qualifications requiring proficiency of CLB 4, ISLPR 1+, IELTS 4 or CEFR A2+ on entry, which provide a pathway to access employment, training and community participation.
When you study with TAFE NSW, we want you to succeed. Entry requirements allow us to make sure that you have the right pre-existing knowledge and skills to achieve your chosen qualification. You will need to provide evidence that you meet the requirements listed in this section.
There are no essential entry requirements or limitations for this course. It is recommended entrants should have:
A minimum English language proficiency of CLB 3, ISLPR 1, IELTS 3.5 or CEFR A2 across all skill levels of Speaking, Reading, Listening and Writing.

STUDY COMMITMENT
This is a full time on campus course. You must attend approximately 16 hours of class. You may also be required to complete approximately 2 to 4 hours of additional study. This additional study could include private study, work placements and research.
The course will run 3 days a week for 18 weeks.

This course is currently scheduled on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with Day classes. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.
SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
