    Assessments

    Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

    • Knowledge tasks: online quizzes, multiple-choice questions, matching and true or false tasks.

    • Project assessments: research tasks, short answer questions, scenarios and personal reflections.

    • Workplace portfolio: practical skills demonstrations and reflective practice journals, observing and planning for children’s learning, workplace health and safety tasks.

    • Training logbook: 160 workplace hours log, workplace supervisor reports.

    Work placement

    Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

    • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:

      • Minimum 160 hours work placement in a regulated Education and Care Service
      • A valid Working with Children Check https://www.ocg.nsw.gov.au/child-safe-organisations/working-with-children-check
      • COVID-19 Vaccination is required to work in a the Education and Care Sector - https://education.nsw.gov.au/early-childhood-education/coronavirus/advice-for-services-and-providers
      • Learner needs to demonstrate successful progression in the course to be eligible to attempt work placement

    Materials needed

    To complete this course, the following materials are required:

    • You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

    • First Aid – This course includes mandatory completion of unit HLTAID002, Provide First Aid in an education and care setting. You must be able to undertake first aid responses including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for a least 2 minutes while kneeling on the floor.

    • You will be required to purchase bandages for the unit HLTAID012. A fee of $11.50 must be paid to Customer Service and a receipt of payment must be shown to your co-ordinator to receive these bandages.

    Units taught in this course

    Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 17 units of competency, including 15 core and 2 speciality units.

    Course delivery

    Combination study

    Learn through a combination of on-campus classroom, virtual classroom, online, and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled face-to-face or virtual classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

    Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
