    Assessments

    Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

    • Knowledge tasks: online quizzes, multiple-choice questions, matching and true or false tasks.

    • Project assessments: research tasks, short answer questions, scenarios and personal reflections.

    • Workplace portfolio: practical skills demonstrations and reflective practice journals, observing and planning for children’s learning, workplace health and safety tasks.

    • Training logbook: 160 workplace hours log, workplace supervisor reports.

    Work placement

    Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

    • You will undertake a mandatory 160 hours of work placement with a suitable industry employer.

    • You need to meet the following requirements to be able to undertake work placement. Your teacher will let you know when you need to provide evidence of:

    • A Working with Children Check (WWCC)

    • Vaccination and health screenings

    • Any additional evidence your work placement provider requires

    • At TAFE NSW we provide training that includes hands-on, practical experience. Work placement ensures you have the job-ready skills to achieve competency in this course.

    • Depending on your mode of study, TAFE NSW will arrange your work placement for you or support you to find one.

    • TAFE Digital students:

    • You are responsible for arranging your own work placement. Our Skills Team can offer support and guidance to assist you.

    Units taught in this course

    Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 17 units of competency, including 15 core and 2 speciality units.

    Course delivery

    Combination study

    Learn through a combination of on-campus classroom, virtual classroom, online, and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled face-to-face or virtual classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

    Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.

    Meadowbank

    One of the largest TAFE NSW locations in Sydney, TAFE NSW Meadowbank offers an extensive range of study areas including degrees in network security and finance.

    While it is home to one of only two Cisco Academy Training Centres in the Australasia Pacific region, TAFE NSW Meadowbank also features hair, beauty and massage clinics as well as a sports and fitness centre, all designed to give students access to real-world on-the-job training.

    Additionally, TAFE NSW and the NSW Department of Education are working together to create the Meadowbank Education Precinct, which will see students able to follow an educational pathway from kindergarten, right through to completing a bachelor degree or diploma at TAFE NSW.
