The nationally accredited Certificate III in Health Services Assistance equips you to become an essential part of a health care team in acute or aged care facilities. You'll learn the skills and knowledge to support nurses in the care of patients with different needs and to respond to emergency health situations.
LEARN NEW SKILLS
Through a mix of theory and practical coursework, learn to:
- Take and record essential health markers such as temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure and blood glucose
- Record intake and output on fluid balance chart and/or food chart
- Measure and record weight
- Collect urine, sputum or faecal specimens
- Understand human body functions and medical terminology
- Practise workplace health and safety measures and infection prevention and control

This is a full-time, blended delivery course. You will need to attend approximately 18 hours of class, over 3 days a week, for 24 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 6 hours of other study per week.
You may also be required to complete additional study each week outside of class hours, including online learning activities. In addition you are required to complete independent private study that will include research and assignment preparation.

This course offering is designed for people who:
- are wanting to work within the Aged Care and health sectors and those wishing to pursue a career in nursing.
This course is a blended delivery program which is run over 6 months. To complete this qualification, you will be required to undertake connected theory classes via an online platforms such as Microsoft Teams or Skype and/or attend a modified practical demonstration, assessments or practical skills at TAFE College on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays each week. As part of this course, you may be asked to undertake role play assessments via connected technologies such as Skype or Microsoft Teams and submit your assessment events electronically to your teacher/s through either the TAFE NSW Moodle or direct email. Workplace learning continues to be an essential component of this qualification. In this course you will be required to complete 80 hours however at times access to the workplace may be disrupted due to COVID-19. TAFE NSW has implemented additional protocols to protect workplace, student and Teachers and/or Assessor health and safety. Please note: All face to face on campus delivery and assessment will comply with TAFE NSW COVID-19 Safe Guidelines. TAFE NSW-Macquarie Fields will support TAFE students with their learning whom may have computer and internet access issues. Classes are held Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays each week 9am until 2:30pm, there is additional online learning that you are required to complete. Work placement will be completed in two one week block sessions held during Monday to Friday with start times from 6am throughout the semester.

If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, there may be a modification or delay in the planned timeframe due to COVID-19 impacts. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.
This course is currently scheduled on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00am - 2:30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

Learners will be required to purchase a clinical uniform shirt and learning resources for this qualification. Costs will include:
First Aid Book - $15.00.
