    Work placement

    Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

    • During your course, you will undertake a mandatory 80 hours of work placement in acute care.

    • TAFE NSW will arrange your work placement with a suitable industry employer.

    To make sure this delivery option is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

    • There are no entry requirements for this qualification however, acceptance into the course will be dependent on BKSB results. Students must be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of their first clinical placement.

    • To successfully complete this course, you will need to meet all theoretical, practical and workplace requirements.

    • Clinical placement requirements:

    • Prior to the first clinical placement, all students must provide endorsed copies of the following documents to their course co-ordinator:

      • A valid working with children check
      • A valid national Police Check
      • Evidence they have met NSW health immunisation requirements
    • Work Placement is a requirement of this course. You will need to complete 80 hours of supervised workplace experience in an acute care facility. 40 hours in acute or aged care for a total of 120 hours.

    • Before commencement of professional experience in NSW Health facility, students will be required to:

      • Meet NSW Health's criminal record check requirements;
      • Sign the NSW Health Code of Conduct form and any other forms, as required by NSW Health or private providers;
      • Undertake occupational assessment, screening and vaccination against infectious diseases and provide health care worker/student vaccination record card.

    Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Assisting in nursing work in acute care) qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 Units of competency, including 15 core and 0 speciality units.

    Course deliveryCombination study

    Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

    Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
