The nationally accredited Certificate III in Barbering is designed for aspiring barbers who want to learn the art of fading, carving and cutting hair in the thriving men's grooming industry. You'll practice your skills on real clients in our fully equipped barbershops and real salons.

There are no information sessions currently scheduled for this course.
This is a part time day course. You will need to attend approximately 7 hours of class, 1 day a week for 54 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 9 hours of other study per week.
You may also be required to complete approximately 1.5 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including pre-reading and moodle tasks.

This course offering is designed for people who are registered apprentices. You will learn off the job at TAFE and on the job in your workplace to develop the skills and knowledge to become a qualified hairdresser. On successful completion of this qualification, you will be job ready in a range of hairdressing services that include: cutting, colouring, design, chemical work and customer service.

Australian Apprenticeships training can be on-the-job, off-the-job or a combination of both. TAFE NSW will negotiate your attendance and study pattern with you and your employer.
SMART AND SKILLED FEES
There are a range of study options for NSW Apprentices and eligible non-apprentices with relevant industry work experience in this course.
Under the NSW Government fee-free apprenticeship initiative, NSW apprentices that commence their training on or after 1 July 2018 may be eligible for fee-free training. Apprentices are required to provide evidence of their NSW apprenticeship to finalise their enrolment and applicable fees.
This course is also a TAFE NSW Trade Pathways Qualification and ideal if you have been working in this industry for an extended period of time but havent received a qualification. To be eligible to enrol as a non-apprentice and secure funding, you must firstly meet the Smart and Skilled eligibility criteria and be:
- over 21 years of age
- able to demonstrate and provide evidence of extensive industry experience and
- able to demonstrate relevant ongoing work experience and provide workplace evidence to support the achievement of competence.
You will need to purchase specialist equipment in order to develop your skills outside of scheduled class times prior to starting class. Detailed Student Equipment Lists will be provided at the orientation session or first day of class, along with suggested industry suppliers. The cost for specialist equipment for this course is approx. $550 which you will retain on completion of your training.
Students are also required to wear closed in protective footwear and plain black pants or black skirt below the knee. You will need to purchase a uniform at $50 from TAFE NSW hairdressing Section.
