    Work placement

    Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

      This course offering is for Apprentices only. You will need to provide evidence of your apprenticeship, have an employer and training plan proposal to enrol. You will need to be registered with an Apprenticeship Network Provider. To meet the requirements of this course, learners should be employed in a Barber salon where they provide hair and grooming services on clients.

    Materials needed

    To complete this course, the following materials are required:

    • You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

      • You will be required to purchase equipment/tools of trade and personal protective equipment (PPE) at an approximate cost of $450 - $500.
      • Optional text: Professional Hairdressing.
    • As part of this course, you will be required to provide hair and grooming services on paying male clients and may also need to provide clients for some of your practical classes and assessments. You must comply with Work Health & Safety requirements for classes, including wearing closed in protective footwear and clothing that is clean and professional for the industry.

    UnitsUnits taught in this course

    Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Barbering qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 26 units of competency, including 21 core and 5 speciality units.

    Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

    Course deliveryCombination study

    Learn through a combination of classroom based, on campus classroom, virtual classroom, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled face-to-face or virtual classroom activities, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

    Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
