Course Details
The nationally accredited Certificate III in Barbering is designed for aspiring barbers who want to learn the art of fading, carving and cutting hair in the thriving men's grooming industry. You'll practice your skills on real clients in our fully equipped barbershops and real salons.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
TAFE NSW offers the Certificate III in Barbering as an apprenticeship. There may also be options available for you to study as a non-apprentice.
Apprenticeship
To be eligible for this course, you must:
- Be employed as an apprentice in the barbering industry as evidenced by a letter of support from your employer
- Submit your training plan proposal (TPP) with your application
Non-apprenticeship
There may be options available for you to study as a non-apprentice. Enquire today and one of our Apprenticeship and Traineeship team will help you understand any eligibility or entry requirements.
WORK PLACEMENT
There is no work placement requirement for this qualification. As an apprentice, you will gain your experience on-the-job with your employer.
If you are enrolling as a non-apprentice, you need to be in relevant employment or have access to appropriate simulated workplace environments in order to meet the course completion requirements.

STUDY COMMITMENT
This is a Full Time, Combination course. You must attend approximately 14 hours of class. You may also be required to complete approximately 12 hours of additional study. This additional study could include private study, work placements and research.

The way you learn may change during your enrolment to ensure the best learning experience or to keep you safe as COVID-19 restrictions change, and some of our face to face classes may change to online or virtual classroom learning. Also, to ensure that we keep you safe while studying, we may modify our face to face classes to meet physical distancing requirements and increased cleaning on campus. If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, there may be a modification or delay in the planned timeframe due to COVID-19 impacts. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.
This course is currently scheduled on Monday and Wednesday with day classes. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.
This training is not subsidised by Government funding. There are no fee exemptions, concessions or subsidies available for this course.
Payment of course fee must be made PRIOR to commencement of learning activity.
ADDITIONAL RESOURCES
You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:
- You are required to provide your own trade equipment and a hair resource kit which you will keep when you complete your study. Approximate cost of $450 - $550
- Equipment Lists will be provided at the orientation session or first day of class, along with suggested industry suppliers.
- You must comply with Work Health & Safety requirements for classes, including wearing closed in protective footwear and clothing that is clean and professional for the industry.

RECOGNITION

Before you can start an apprenticeship, you first need to find an employer in the industry you're interested in that will support you through your studies. You and your employer should contact an Apprenticeship Network Provider (ANP) and tell them you're interested in studying at TAFE NSW.
The ANP will help you and your employer to complete a Training Contract. Once you have a Training Contract, we will help you, your employer and the ANP to complete a Training Plan Proposal. Once you have both these documents, the ANP will lodge them with State Training Services, who will provide further advice about next steps.
