The Essential Eight Assessment Course has been designed by the Australian Signals Directorate’s Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) and is delivered in partnership by TAFEcyber.
The Essential Eight Assessment Course will help Cyber Security and ICT professionals:
- Understand the intent and application of ACSC’s Essential Eight mitigation strategies.
- Learn how to use ACSC-designed tools.
- Accurately test the implementation of the Essential Eight security controls.
- Develop an accurate an actionable assessment report including a defined action plan to address any weaknesses.

Frequently asked questions
No, the course must be delivered in person, as required by the Australian Signals Directorate.
No, the course fee is fixed and not subject to discounts for group enrolments.
To succeed in this course, you must meet one of the following criteria:
- Hold a minimum of a Certificate IV qualification in a technical ICT discipline and have at least two years of experience in a technical ICT role, or
- Have a minimum of four years’ experience in a technical ICT role.
During the enrolment process, you’ll be required to provide documentation verifying your citizenship, education, and relevant work experience. This may include copies of certificates, transcripts, or employment records.
Yes. If your company already has a TAFE NSW Business Development Manager, they will assist with managing your enrolment into the program. This includes helping to set up and deliver customised training programs for companies with 10 or more staff.

Unfortunately, New Zealand citizens are not eligible to apply for the Essential Eight Assessment Course.
