    AMEP Volunteer Tutor Program

    Funded by the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs, the Volunteer Tutor Program is an Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) sub-program offering informal language tuition by trained volunteers to migrants and refugees, online or face-to-face.

    How do I become an AMEP volunteer English tutor?

    The process involves six stages:

    1. Preparation - Gathering your documentation (listed below) to upload with your application.
    2. Application - Completing your online application and upload your documentation.
    3. Interview - Once processed, we will arrange a 30 minute telephone interview at a time that suits you.
    4. Training - You will complete a 15-hour online tutor training program. The training is self-paced to suit your needs.
    5. Finalising – TAFE NSW will conduct a Criminal History Check at no cost to you.
    6. Matching - We will start working on matching you to a student in your local area.

    Please use a computer (not a mobile phone) to complete your application for a smoother experience. If you have trouble uploading documents, call us on 02 7920 6769 for assistance.

    Required Documents Checklist:

    You must upload the following documents with your application:

    1. Working with Children Check Clearance (WWCC): You need to obtain a Clearance number. This check is free for volunteers. Please include your registration number and expiry date.
    2. Criminal History Check Consent Form: Download the Consent Form and complete it.
    3. Proof of Identification: You must provide four (4) documents to allow us to conduct the Criminal Record Check. (Note: These documents will be securely destroyed once the check is complete.
      1. 1x Commencement Document: e.g. Australian passport or Australian birth certificate
      2. 1x Primary Document: e.g. Australian driver’s license or proof of age card.
      3. 2x Secondary Documents: e.g. Medicare card or Australian Electoral Commission enrolmen
