    About this course

    This course prepares you for a vibrant creative career in either the visual arts or music production and performance. Benefit from one-on-one studio time with teachers working in the industry. Build your creative and business skills through practical projects. Develop your technical skills, build your portfolio and make valuable industry connections.

    This course is for students who hold a relevant diploma or advanced diploma. Your qualification will be assessed for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and credit transfer. If granted this may significantly reduce the time and cost of your degree. Course duration will depend on how much advanced entry you receive and the study load you choose.

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    Entry requirements

    This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol.

    You must demonstrate that you have achieved one of the following:

    • a NSW HSC (Higher School Certificate) or equivalent, or

    • Completion of a Recognised Tertiary Preparation Certificate, or

    • A qualification from a Registered Training Organisation at Certificate IV level or above, or

    • Successful completion of at least one year full-time (or equivalent) study in a course at a higher education institution.

    You must also :

    • Attend a consultation (in person or online) with our academic team to discuss your creative background and study goals. This informal discussion is designed to help you find the right pathway for success in the course.

    • Submit 3 examples of your original creative work. For example: visual artworks (for the Visual Arts specialisation), or music you have produced or performed (for the Music Production and Performance specialisation).

    • You will be advised during the application process on how to submit your creative work.

    These course-specific requirements provide you with the opportunity to:

    • share and discuss your creative work, influences and aspirations with academic staff

    • learn more about the knowledge and skills needed for success in this course

    • discuss study pathway options or enabling courses if needed

    • access information about the wide range of TAFE NSW student support services, including academic and career support, disability services, Aboriginal student support, and health and wellbeing counselling.

    Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and credit transfer

    • Students who have completed an Australian nationally recognised diploma in a related creative field may be eligible for up to one year of credit for the degree. Where granted, students will be able to complete the bachelor’s degree in a minimum of 2 years (full time).

    • Students who have completed an Australian nationally recognised advanced diploma in related creative field may be eligible for up to 18 months credit for the degree. Where granted, students will be able to complete the bachelor’s degree in a minimum of 1 1/2 years (full time).

    • Students who are granted advanced standing based on their completion of a relevant diploma or advanced diploma will not be required to pay the full course tuition fee advertised, and will only be required to pay for the subjects they enrol in.

    • Students can work with the Course Coordinator to plan their own study pathway. As a result, the length of the course may be different.

    Note:

    • Your certificates, transcripts and other entry requirement evidence must be certified through a Justice of the Peace or other authorising officer.

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • initiative and an independent attitude to learning

    • a basic understanding of your creative arts discipline

    • a willingness to work with others

    • a creative, entrepreneurial mindset.

    You do not require an ATAR score for entry into this course.

    If you are unable to meet the entry requirements, you may be eligible for special admission.

    Please continue with your application and you will be guided to identify as mature aged (at least 21 years old in your first year of study) or disadvantaged (disability, serious or chronic illness, interrupted education, lack of support for study, serious personal problems and/or serious family responsibilities).

    Completion of this course requires you to successfully complete 21 subjects (240 credit points) made up of 19 core subjects and 2 elective subjects. Your year 3 subject ‘CPCPP301A Creative Practice Capstone Project’ is worth 30 credit points. You will complete all business and culture related subjects, plus the subjects of your chosen specialisation in either visual arts or music production and performance.

    Please note, not all subjects are offered at every TAFE NSW location, every semester. It is highly recommended that you check with your preferred campus for information about the subjects offered at that location.
