Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:

    • Students must complete three weeks (120 hours) of FULL TIME UNPAID work placement. Before you undertake any clinical placements in Aged Care Facilities you will be required to undertake a National Criminal Record Check as well as provide evidence of Influenza and Covid19 vaccinations.
    • Students should be over the age of 17, as recommended by our aged care industry partners.
    • Learners are required to have a basic level of literacy, English language skills and a beginning level of employability / life skills that will enable them to safely care for elderly people in a busy environment, on course completion.
    • For the unit HLTAID003 Provide First Aid - students must demonstrate Basic Life Support on a resuscitation manikin which has been placed on the floor. People who have physical limitations or a disability that would prevent them from performing required basic life support skills are advised that they will not be able to achieve the unit. Many Aged Care facilities require evidence of a current influenza vaccination.

Materials needed

To complete this course, the following materials are required:

  • In addition to your course fee, there may be some additional charges to cover the costs of undertaking this training. Costs associated with work experience and field trips such as food, transport and accommodation are at the students own expense. Additional items required for this course are the purchase of a Uniform shirt $35 and First Aid Text Book $25.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 13 Units of competency, including 7 core and 6 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course Delivery Combination Study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
