    About this course

    The Bachelor of Information Technology (Data Engineering) builds the essential knowledge and technical skills you need to design, implement and manage big data systems and their supporting infrastructure.

    You’ll build practical expertise in data analysis, machine learning, AI engineering, data security, cloud computing (AWS and Microsoft Azure) and emerging database technologies. This will enable you to design and deliver real-world data solutions.

    The qualification and experience you gain will prepare you for the growing demand for professionals who design data-driven IT solutions and manage complex data ecosystems. TAFE NSW has strong partnerships with industry leaders such as Cisco, AWS, Microsoft, Red Hat, NDG, Oracle, Palo Alto, Juniper and CompTIA.

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • apply a wide range of knowledge in information and communication technology, including practical and theoretical frameworks for networking, data engineering and data analytics

    • conduct ICT research in data engineering and analysis, evaluating new information and technologies from multiple sources

    Entry requirements

    This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol.

    You must demonstrate that you have achieved one of the following:

    • a NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) or equivalent, shown by a certified copy of your certificate or transcript

    • a Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation or equivalent, shown by a certified copy of your certificate or transcript

    • a completed Certificate IV or higher vocational qualification, shown by a certified copy of your certificate or transcript.

    You must also:

    • submit a 500-word essay showing your motivation to study and work in the information technology industry

    • attend a pre-admission interview. You may be asked to complete a short literacy and numeracy task to help us identify how we can support your study success.

    • have mathematics knowledge to HSC level or equivalent. If not, you may need to complete a bridging program or preparatory course.

    Note:

    • All certificates, transcripts and other evidence of entry requirements must be certified by a Justice of the Peace or another authorised officer.

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • some experience and knowledge in information technology

    • a strong interest in information technology and data engineering

    • computer and digital literacy

    • a background in information technology.

    You do not require an ATAR score for entry into this course.

    If you are unable to meet the entry requirements, you may be eligible for special admission.
