Warrigal and TAFE Enterprise – a caring partnership
Warrigal run community-owned aged-care organisations in the NSW south coast and the inland towns of Queanbeyan, Bundanoon and Goulburn. They saw an opportunity to invest in their staff and further enhance their reputation within the sector.
The Challenge
- Upskill staff and consolidate its corporate training requirements across 11 locations;
- Customise training for recruitment, retainment and development and ensure existing workers have access to quality training opportunities;
- Attract quality talent into the future with training opportunities that would appeal to prospective employees.
TAFE Enterprise delivered
TAFE Enterprise offers a wide range of courses for the care industry and was able to specifically tailor training to meet Warrigal’s needs.
- Delivering units of competency for Assist Clients with Medication, and Administer and Monitor Medication;
- First Aid and CPR refresher workshops;
- a customer service program and customised basic computer skills course;
- traineeship courses for Certificate III in Individual Support, Certificate IV in Ageing Support and a Certificate III in Home and Community Care;
- a new nine-week program, Get Set to Go, involving 15 participants from the Youth Employment Strategy program.
The result
The success of the partnership is revealed in the training numbers.
- 39 staff completions for Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, which ensures Warrigal is meeting its tender obligations with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs;
- 44 staff completions for Customer Care Program Level 1 & 2, of whom five are undertaking Cert III Individual Support Traineeship (Goulburn), which assists with recruitment strategies;
- a further 18 existing workers in Illawarra and Southern Highlands completing Cert III Individual Support, Cert IV Ageing Support, and Cert III Home & Community, which assists with staff retainment and development.
