The nationally recognised Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice strengthens the skills you need to work as a real estate agent or property portfolio officer. You will develop marketing profiles, interpret legislation and prepare for professional practice in the dynamic real estate industry.


Through a mix of theory and practical coursework, learn to:

A Class 2 licence is required to conduct sales or property management in the real estate industry in NSW. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be eligible to apply for a Class 2 licence.

Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this qualification can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors.

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • The ability to work after hours and on weekends to meet customer demands

The groups within CPP41419 Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice, contain units that are also packaged in Training Package Skill Sets and which align to various licensing requirements across Australia. The CPP Companion Volume Implementation Guide Release 8.0 provides a table that maps these skill sets to the groups in the qualification. Note that licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements vary between states and territories.

This is a blended flexible course. You will need to complete approximately 13.3 hours of study a week, for 1 year.

You may also be required to complete approximately 5 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including Moodle activities, research, work experience, portfolio preparation and homework.


The targeted cohort(s) are students who are new entrants into the property service sector and are seeking to operate as a real estate agent in sale and or property management.
New entrant may include any one of the following:

  • School leavers,
  • Career changers, seeking to start a new career or employment pathway in Real estate or
  • New job-seekers wanting a career in Real estate.

New entrants are regarded as career starters in the property service sector. They may be recent school leavers and / or career changers that make up this cohort, whom are seeking to enter the property sector.
Students in this cohort who have employment in a Real Estate agency will be able to build on their existing knowledge and skills in this course and apply their learning to the workplace.

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
