* Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to access Summer Skills training, a person must meet Smart and Skilled eligibility guidelines, which are:

  • live or work in NSW
  • be an Australian Citizen, a permanent resident, a New Zealand citizen, or a humanitarian visa holder
  • 15 years old or over
  • have left school

AND be either:

  • Leaving school permanently in 2022, i.e. Year 11 and 12 school leavers; or
  • Not at school in 2022 and no more than 24 years old.

Yes, Summer Skills short courses are fee-free* for those that meet the eligibility criteria.

 

Summer Skills classes will commence from 26 September, with all training to be completed by 28 April 2023. Please see list above for course available under this program, class commencement dates, participating campuses or if delivered online.

 

Yes. Summer Skills offer a range of short courses aimed at giving school leavers the skills they need to find work.

Priority industry areas have been identified under Skilling for Recovery and include short courses in Early Childhood Care, Aged Care, Disability, Hospitality, Construction, Agriculture, Business and Administration, IT and Digital, Retail, Transport and Logistics, Manufacturing/Engineering and Sport and Recreation.

 

You can qualify for the Summer Skills short courses if you are aged from 15 to 24 inclusive and are leaving school permanently in 2022, i.e. Year 11 and 12 school leavers or are not at school in 2022 and no more than 24 years old.

 

If you are under 17 years old, you’ll need to complete an enrolment form and have it signed by your parent or guardian. Select the “enquire now” button to request an enrolment form.

Summer skills is focussed on getting jobs for school leavers, by delivering the skills they need in industries where there are immediate job opportunities. Summer Skills are made up of units drawn from full qualifications, meaning you’ll learn skills that are highly valued by employers.

 

There are many ways to study with TAFE NSW. Depending on the Summer Skills course you choose to undertake, it may be run face-to-face and on campus, online via TAFE Digital or as a Virtual Classroom.

On Campus

Attend a specific TAFE NSW campus and learn in a face-to-face, teacher led environment.

TAFE Digital

Self-paced and online. Access study materials accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week allowing you the flexibility to study at times convenient to you.

Virtual Classroom

Virtual Classrooms occur online, but at a scheduled class time. Virtual Classrooms offer a teacher lead environment, run via web conferencing technology, allowing you to interact with your classmates and teachers.

 

You don't have to be a computer whiz to succeed in online learning. However, you should be comfortable typing, using the internet and email, chatting to your teachers or others online, reading course content online, using common software and performing other basic tasks. Once you enrol, you will receive an email with your login details for the TAFE Digital Campus, simply follow the prompts to get started. There’s no fixed class timetable so you can enjoy flexible learning to fit your lifestyle, and study at times that suit you.
