    About this course

    Become an arborist consultant, undertake site and tree risk assessments. Learn to keep accurate data and records for maintenance and writing tree assessment reports. Enhance your report writing recommendations by learning to produce computer aided drawings.

    Learning outcomes

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • Assess trees to determine their health and vigour, and apply appropriate works, pruning and maintenance programs

    • Identify trees that are deemed as risks by conducting site safety analyses and tree risk assessments by determining health against hazard benchmarks

    • Ability to assess the health and condition of trees and diagnose tree disorders and defects

    • Make recommendations for tree establishment, canopy management, tree remediation and tree removals

    • Work within tree management regulatory frameworks

    Entry requirements

    This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol.

    • Successful completion of the unit AHCARB314 - Implement a tree maintenance program, as evidenced by a copy of your transcript or certificate, and

    • Successful completion of the unit AHCARB316 - Perform pruning operations, as evidenced by a copy of your transcript or certificate, and

    • Successful completion of the unit AHCARB323 - Identify trees, as evidenced by a copy of your transcript or certificate, or

    • Successful completion of the Certificate III in Arboriculture (Elevated Work Platform – EWP Arborist), or equivalent qualification as evidenced by a copy of your transcript or certificate, or

    • Successful completion of the Certificate III in Arboriculture (Climbing Arborist), or equivalent qualification as evidenced by a copy of your transcript or certificate

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • Safety footwear such as enclosed work boots

    • An intermediate level of fitness

    • A computer with internet access

    • Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) at a Year 12 high school level

    Units taught in this course

    Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Diploma of Arboriculture qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 10 units of competency, including 8 core and 2 speciality units.

    Please note, not all specialty units are offered at every TAFE NSW location. It is highly recommended that you check with your preferred campus for information about the specialty units offered at that location.
