    Get your NSW Food Safety Supervisor Certificate to be nominated as the certified food safety supervisor in your workplace or food business.

    Learning outcomes

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • follow hygiene procedures and identify food hazards

    • report any personal health issues and maintain a clean environment

    • prevent food contamination

    • prevent cross-contamination

    • follow food safety program

    • prepare, store and dispose of food safely.

    Gain practical experience and develop specialist skills that give you an advantage in the job market.

    • A nationally accredited Statement of Attainment.

    • The ability to be nominated as a certified food safety supervisor, responsible for daily food handling and managing food safety risks.

    • A NSW Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) Certificate – the course fee includes the $30 NSW Food Authority certificate fee.

    • Skills in key focus areas such as allergen management, safe egg handling, cleaning and sanitising, and understanding Food Act offences.

    Entry requirements

    This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol

    Please note:

    • There are no entry requirements for on-campus study. If you’re studying remotely, you’ll need access to a commercial kitchen to demonstrate your practical skills. This must be shown in a video submission before the course starts. After you enrol, your teacher will send you a list of required activities to complete.

    Completion requirements

    During your study you’ll need to provide your teacher with the following evidence:

    • You will need to complete your practical assessments in a commercial kitchen.

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • motivation to become a food safety supervisor in your workplace or your own food service business

    • relevant employment or access to a suitable simulated workplace to demonstrate your skills.

    Licensing

    To be nominated as a food safety supervisor in a NSW food service business, you must hold a current NSW FSS Certificate. This certificate is valid for 5 years. When it expires, visit the NSW Food Authority website for recertification details. TAFE NSW’s Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) approval number is 53794. We will share your name with the NSW Food Authority to issue your NSW FSS Certificate. For details on how we handle your personal information, please see our privacy policy.
