OVERVIEW

The accredited Diploma of Remedial Massage equips you with the understanding needed to deliver a wide range of massage techniques enabling you to work as a skilled remedial massage therapist in the health and wellness industry.

Learn about myofascial release, trigger point therapy, lymphatic and sports massage technique, and perform and adapt remedial massage treatments. You will also learn how to do musculoskeletal assessments as well as analyse health information for tailored treatments.

TAFE NSW is the leading provider of education and training in Australia, with over 130 years of history. Our courses are designed in close consultation with industry, so you graduate with relevant, up-to-date skills and knowledge.

Work Placement Requirements:

To achieve this qualification, all students must have completed at least 200 hours of clinic work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. This must include a minimum of 100 clients and is completed through the onsite clinics. If a student is working within the industry they can log a maximum of 50 hours offsite within a clinic setting with the remaining 150 hours to be completed within the onsite clinics.

Students will be required to complete a logbook for a record of the work placement so they can practice their skills and embed the knowledge they have learned during the course.

  • Academic IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL (iBT) 46 or equivalent
  • Or Completion of a TAFE NSW General English Program


  • TAFE NSW makes every effort to ensure your Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) needs are met. The level of support you need may be assessed via a review of your LLN skills with written tasks and a one-on-one interview. If you need to strengthen your LLN skills, an individual training plan will be created with you.

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • The physical ability to stand for long periods of time to give a remedial massage
    • Empathy and a warm personality
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Adequate fitness and the mobility to perform First Aid. For example- CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) requiring kneeling on the floor

    To receive this course students must complete all core units and a range of Additional units. 

    Note: Additional units may vary between each semester and campus, and will depend on a number of considerations including the packaging rules for the qualification and demand for the unit at that location. TAFE NSW does not guarantee that speciality units listed will be offered at each location and semester. You will receive your timetable from the teaching section on commencement and speciality units offered will be provided at that time.
