Course Details

The Diploma of Sustainable Practice is a fully online course aimed at people who work or are planning to work in roles which incorporate sustainability into the core business of their organisation. The course responds to the demand for people with broad knowledge and skills in sustainability practice, and the trend for businesses to be able to participate in the sustainable economy.

Students complete eight subjects which cover the three key areas of knowledge essential for effective sustainability practitioners:

  • sustainability in context
  • sustainability systems and
  • sustainability in action.

The course uses a project based learning approach which allows students to engage with sustainability scenarios relevant to their work environment.

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants are required to hold, at minimum, one of the following to be considered eligible for admission: - a NSW HSC (Higher School Certificate) or equivalent OR - a recognised Tertiary Preparation Certificate OR - a qualification from a Registered Training Organisation at Certificate IV level or above OR - the completion of at least one year full-time or equivalent in a degree course at a higher education institution.

SPECIAL ADMISSIONS
If you do not meet the minimum eligibility requirements for this course, you may be able to apply for entry into this course based on mature age or disadvantage. Contact the course coordinator for details of evidence that you should attach to your application.

INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS
This course is not registered with CRICOS and is therefore not available for enrolment by students holding an international student visa. Offshore students are eligible to apply for entry into this course and should contact the course coordinator. This course is delivered via Mixed delivery, Online with weekly live online sessions and the option of a face to face session at the National Environment Centre. A delivery timetable will be confirmed at the beginning of the semester. You will be required to have internet access and a computer capable of connecting with TAFE on-line systems. As well as engaging with online learning content, you are expected to undertake additional private study to maximise success in the course. The course uses a project based learning approach that allows you to engage with workplace or community scenarios relevant to your context. You will also have significant opportunities to engage with your study colleagues and teachers.

To be eligible for admission into the Diploma of Sustainable Practice you must have at least ONE of the following entry requirments: NSW HSC (higher school certificate) or equivalent, Recognised Tertiary Preparation Certificate, Certificate IV or higher vocational qualification, completion of at least one year full time study or equivalent in a degree course at a higher eductiona institution.

Students will complete eight subjects which cover the three key areas of knowledge essential for effective sustainability practitioners: i)sustainability in context; ii) sustainability systems; and iii) sustainability in action.

The Diploma of Sustainable Practice is a course aimed at people who work, or are planning to work, in roles that incorporate sustainability into the core business of their organisation. The course responds to the demand for people with broad knowledge and skills in sustainability practice, and the trend for all sectors of our economy and community to better participate in a rapidly changing economy and regulatory environment. The course also assists graduates to gain or maintain professional certification with the International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP).

Students who have completed other studies in a related field or who have extensive relevant industry experience may be eligible for exemption from similar subjects in the Diploma of Sustainable Practice. All applications for exemption must be made to the course coordinator and must include supporting documentation. Students should attend class until they are formally advised that their application for exemption has been granted.

This course is delivered via mixed delivery part time over a 2 year period requiring a minimum of 10 hours per week of study.
