Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:

    • Students are required to complete 100 hours of industry contact and work experience. The 100 hours may include project work, industry consultation, guest speakers, industry visits, on line forums, student research on services and an 80 hour (minimum) placement at an appropriate Alcohol and Other Drugs organisation.

    Work placement at an organisation will not commence prior to Semester 1, Term 2, 26 April 2022 unless currently employed in the Community Services or Alcohol and Other Drugs sector. Placement days of attendance and hours will be negotiated with the organisation, the student and the teacher.

    Students will need to provide a Current Working with Children Clearance and a National Police Check prior to Wednesday 9 March 2022.
    You are required to complete the First Aid unit HLTAID003 during the month of May 2002 from 9.00am until 5.00pm.
    If working from home, learners require a device with a camera and a microphone. They will also require adequate data and internet speed to enable class participation and to complete assessments. Students can negotiate the use of a TAFE NSW device on campus as needed, however, campus operational hours may not allow full access.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 17 units of competency , including 12 core and 5 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

  • Provide interventions for people with alcohol and other drugs issues CHCAOD006

  • Develop and review individual alcohol and other drugs treatment plans CHCAOD009

Course delivery Virtual classroom, off campus

Connect with your teachers and other students in a virtual classroom to participate in learning activities via video or web conferencing technology. You will be able to join the class from anywhere with a good internet connection, such as your home or a TAFE campus. If you would like to join from TAFE, please contact your local campus to book a space. Much like a regular class, you will have scheduled times of attendance. Depending on what you are studying, your course may also include some online units.
