Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge assessments: short answer, multiple choice questions, research tasks, group assignments

  • Simulated workplace projects: scenarios-based problem solving

  • Submission of a logbook

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

    There are additional entry requirements which you will need to meet to considered for entry into the course. This is to maximise your chance of success in the course and to ensure your safety and well-being. The entry requirements include:

    • Competent in the use of a range of computer office suites such as Microsoft Word, Power Point, email and conducting internet searches
    • Ability to attend face to face classes regularly
    • Have your own lived experience of mental illness (ie. not just as a carer)
    • We strongly recommend that the students in this course have been mentally well and functioning in the community for at least six months prior to commencing the course, and have not been receiving inpatient care during this time. This is really important as a number of units studied in this course can be triggering and distressing for students.
      If you do not meet the above requirements there may be other courses we can recommend.
      After you apply for the course, you will be contacted by a teacher to review the above points.
      You will also be advised of a compulsory online information session on Tuesday 7 December, 2021. This session will run from 9.30am to 11.00am. You will receive the link to this session after you apply. At the information session students will be assisted to complete a ‘getting to know you form’. This form will assist the teaching team to support your language, literacy and numeracy needs and will also ask information about the your skills and knowledge in the community services industry. The session will enable staff to identify vocational pathways and identify any supports that are required to set learners up for success on the learning journey.

  • To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have:

    • experience and knowledge in community services and mental heath services.
  • To successfully complete this course, you will need:

    • Laptop and internet access; Level 4 proficiency in language, literacy and numeracy.
    • 80 hours work placement.
    • Students are required to be able to gain a Criminal Record Check, a Working with Children Check and a NDIS worker check

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 units of competency, including 8 core and 7 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
