Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge assessments: online quizzes, multiple-choice questions, matching and true or false activities, research projects, presentations, creative projects

  • Skills assessments: critical reflection activities and reflective journals, programming, planning and implementing curriculum tasks

  • Practical skills assessments: practical demonstrations such as implementing experiences and routines

  • Submission of a training logbook

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:
    A minimum of 280 hours of work placement in a regulated Education and Care Service in Australia is required for this qualification. The work placement will be arranged by the TAFE NSW in partnership with the service and implemented within the student's program to enable consolidation, reflection, improvement and assessment to occur.
    A student may already have access to a regulated Education and Care service through paid or voluntary employment. This can be assessed by TAFE NSW for suitability for the student to complete their placement.
    A valid Working with Children Check will be required by the Education and Care Service. The Service and/or some locations may also have additional requirements such as vaccination and Police Checks. Students will be notified of specific requirements prior to placement.
    Work placement is an opportunity to learn on the job and complete assessment requirements and often leads to employment opportunities.

Additional entry requirements

To make sure this delivery option is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

  • This Part time (18 month course) is a 2 days per week program for 54 delivery weeks. This is generally across 6 school terms with term breaks. It would be best suited to a learner who is able to commit to 2 days per week on campus and/or virtual classroom study and is generally delivered in the evenings. This delivery can easily be coupled with work in the education and care sector, or other employment or commitments. There is ample space in this timetable for additional time to grasp concepts and consolidate skills and knowledge. If this does not sound like you, we have other delivery options that may better suit you. Students will require regular access to, and have the ability to use a computer and internet. Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 , including 12 core and 3 speciality units.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
