Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.
Skills assessments: role-play scenarios, presentations, practical, observation (including assessments in the workplace)
Knowledge assessments: multiple choice, true or false, short answer questions
Case study: case study scenario, reflection
Portfolio: samples of work in a workplace environment
Project: report, research-based project, journal, essay
Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

To be enrolled in this course, you will need to complete an RUReady and have a literacy level of 3.
To successfully complete this course, you must complete and pass all units of competency as required by the training package. No formal entry requirements, however, TAFE NSW must ensure that applicants who wish to commence a Diploma of mental health have the required skills and knowledge to successfully complete the qualification at a Diploma level as outlined by AQF.
Existing workers may apply for recognition of prior learning.
Work placement is a requirement of this course. You may need a working with children check and criminal record check
Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Diploma of Mental Health qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 20 units of competency, including 15 core and 5 speciality units.
Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.
Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.
Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
