Materials needed

To complete this course, the following materials are required:

  • You will need to provide your own pen/s and notebook and personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • A standard list of items meeting the relevant Australian Standards should include

    • Welding helmet – shade 11
    • Approved Australian Standards Oxy-Acetylene goggles – shade 5
    • Full leather gauntlet gloves
    • Clear safety glasses
    • Approved hearing protection
    • Cotton work clothing (overalls, cotton drill trousers, cotton drill shirt etc)
    • Leather work boots – NOT shoes
    • Welding jacket

  • No synthetic materials should be worn – the above equipment is required by all students undertaking courses within the Metal Fabrication and Welding section.

  • Before you enrol, you will need a USI number. Please visit www.usi.gov.au and create a USI number. You will need at least one form of identification.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate II in Engineering qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 20 units of competency, including 5 core and 15 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
